The City of Lincoln Council and its playground supplier are revamping some of the play area at Whitton(s) Park this August.
Following ongoing technical issues and safety concerns caused by local site conditions, the (often out of operation) double zip wire will be permanently removed. In its place, the supplier has agreed to install several new pieces of equipment and perform routine maintenance on two existing play features at no cost to the council. Whilst some of us will miss the zip wire’s teeth-jarring ride, it does seem time to cut our losses and get equipment that children can use all the time.
The new equipment should consist of:
- Adding another basketball hoop at the opposite end of the basketball area.
- Exercise equipment – cross trainer and city bike installed close to the basketball area.
- A Snail Springer, Forest Bugs See-Saw and a Hammock to be installed in the enclosed play area.
Installation is scheduled for completion by the end of August. Contractors will be working around the current massive Yarborough Road stabilisation project going on at the Park, so scheduling may shift slightly depending on site access. And yes…the council is aware that it is the school summer holidays.

Would be great if a skate park could be installed where all the cabins etc are given there’s no facility around this part of the city.
I’ve had feedback from local families that a pump track would be awesome in the area for young bikers. Any chance of a pop up coffee stand for parents?
Just wondering about disability friendly and accessible equipment – does the council take this into account and if there are families in the area for whom this would be important? Inclusive play!
Hi Emma,
Some of the general equipment can be used by those with a disability and there is an inclusive play area which includes a wheelchair accessible roundabout and seesaw.
Thrilled to hear about outdoor gym kit – great idea. And the double basket ball hoops, presumably a game ca be played? Well done.
