The zip wire seats have now been installed on the double zip wire at Whittons Park and are available for use. Those of us who have tried the zip wire (purely in the interests of health and safety of course) would describe the ride as “fierce”. Actually, it is not the ride – it is the stop at the end. Despite a lot of spring damping when the bottom of the ride is reached then you are sent probably horizontal with the wire – not for the faint hearted but no doubt highly appealing for those who enjoy these things!
The button seats are quite high for smaller people. At the weight suggested in safety standards, there needs to be a certain height clearance of the ground. At the end of the run, the chains were shortened to allow this, but naturally this meant the seats became quite high at the other end. Young people have huge skills in finding “out of the box” solutions when it comes to play so this may not be an issue. As experience is built up on the ride do let LLRA know if this is an issue. It may be possible to have a launching platform installed at the top of one of the wires (budget permitting). Email: LLRA@long-leys.org
New Litter Bin
LLRA have also persuaded the city council to install an additional bin just below the enclosed section of the park towards the Long Leys Road end. We encourage everyone to make use of this to keep the park in good condition.
Playpark Project Completion
The addition of the zip wire seats marks the completion of 3 year hard work by LLRA volunteers and the city council team to upgrade the play facilities. Our thanks go to all those public-spirited people who give up their time to improve facilities for our community.
