The £152,000 upgrade to the Whittons Park playpark has now received planning permission and the contractor is likely to be on site from Wednesday 17 November 2021. The main construction is planned to be complete by the end of December 2021, although precise timings will be dependent on weather and ground conditions. Additional litter bins will be added after main construction is complete.
Some reinstatement of grass etc will be required, to make good any areas damaged by construction equipment, and this is likely to be completed in March 2022, when the grass growing season arrives.
Playpark Fenced Area Closure Likely From 17 November
As a result of the construction activity, with heavy equipment being used, the existing fenced children’s playpark is likely to be closed from Wednesday 17 November for the remainder of 2021.
Access to the rest of Whittons Park will be possible, although the new zip wire and sports wall areas will also be fenced off. It will still be possible to walk through the park between Long Leys Road and Yarborough Road. Some seating may have to be temporarily removed to allow plant access and the northwest access gate from Long Leys Road will be closed to allow construction access. The contractor will obviously do their best to minimise disruption.
More specific information on access will be available in the park, as construction proceeds, and LLRA will share it as it becomes available. By Spring 2022, Long Leys should have a great new play facility, with new equipment for young children as well as teenagers.
