23 March 2020:
We just wanted to give you an update on the county-wide steps likely to be taken regarding support for communities.
Plans are being put together to support people in the community who find themselves unable to go shopping and so on. The County Council is working with district councils (including our City Council) on these plans.
Please note that this is separate to the support which will be given to the most vulnerable people in our community (you will have seen this morning that the government is sending out letters to those people). Instead this support will be aimed at people who are normally able to carry out everyday tasks easily but who are having difficulties because of self-isolation and the COVID-19 illness. It will enable the council to co-ordinate volunteers in the weeks ahead. We know that there are many wonderful people in our community who are generously offering their time and care.
We do not have any further details at present but we will forward updates to the resident associations as we get them.
In the meantime, if you have enquiries about support or anything else then please contact us on the emails/phone numbers posted last week on this page (or see our contact details on the city and county council websites).
Take care and warmest wishes,
City Cllr Lucinda Preston, City Cllr Laura McWilliams, City Cllr Neil Murray, County Councillor Robert Parker.
