City Council Approve £150,000 Whittons Park Playpark Upgrade!

22nd February 2021 by longleysra 4 Comments

Great news for the Long Leys and West End Communities. LLRA are delighted to confirm that, on Monday evening (22 February), the Executive Team of City of Lincoln Council approved the release of £152,413 of Section 106 funds to upgrade the children’s play equipment at Whittons Park. This will involve a spend of £130,000 in the 2021/22 financial year with the reminder spent in 2023/24.

Further details on how the project will be managed will be released to the community in the next few weeks. As a reminder of the project, see the Community Brief – Upgrade to Whittons Park Children’s Play Park which was submitted to the city council by LLRA and WERA following our community consultation in summer 2019.

Note: Funding for this project comes from Section 106 housing developer contributions for children’s play. The Section 106 funds can only be spent on the provision of children’s play equipment in the local area and if unspent the funds would have to be returned to the developer by 29 November 2023.

I note there does not appear to be a specific reference to the use of the park area for disabled children. I do hope that this is being taken into account

      Hi Pam,
The community brief includes the guidance “Inclusive design for all ranges of ability and mobility”.

It would be great to see a rigorous consultation process like this:

      Hi Kat,
Thanks for the feedback. An extensive consultation was completed in 2019 in both Long Leys and the West End and the findings for this are in the community brief which is linked in the article above. The next stage is for selected suppliers to present their designs to see how they meet the brief prepared by the community.
