Veolia Withdraws Its Planning Appeal

18th January 2018 by longleysra 4 Comments

We – your LLRA and StopVeolia campaign team – have just heard that Veolia has withdrawn (cancelled) its appeal. The company contacted us directly by email, and sent us their withdrawal letter to the Planning Inspectorate (view here). The Planning Inspectorate has also confirmed this in writing (view here).

This means we have won. The Public Inquiry will now NOT be taking place, and the planning refusal from last February stands.

We cannot unequivocally say this is the end of the story. There is nothing to stop Veolia submitting a new planning application, but we will be watching very carefully. For now, however, until and unless they do so, the matter is closed.

Over the weekend we will distribute a leaflet which will give more detail, and which will aim to answer all the questions you may have.

This is excellent news…

May it be suggested that local residents keep an eye on Veolia ES (UK) Ltd because having withdrawn their appeal, the company may be seeking a rest bite then later submit another of their planning applications but amended to suit their operational needs.
They did this elsewhere in the United Kingdom, and in some circumstances, were successful!

These two stories were reported today,19th January 2018, regarding Veolia ES (UK) Limited withdrawing their appeal about having their WTS on Long Leys Road, Lincoln.
One was on the Lincolnshire Echo web site – see http://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news/local-news/campaigners-claim-victory-after-veolia-1087457
The other is on the Lincolnite web site as shown on http://thelincolnite.co.uk/2018/01/veolia-withdraws-appeal-to-build-waste-transfer-site-in-lincoln/
Veolia so far has not made any statement after being contacted by the media.
    It is wondered why!

Was mentioned regularly on BBC Radio Lincolnshire – hear the news item at the beginning and on the hour on http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05rtl00
Was shown on lunchtime news and a lengthy report on 6 o’clock news for ITV Calendar News interviewing local residents and the leader of the Lincolnshire County Council.
