STOP VEOLIA members join up with LLRA!

21st March 2017 by Long Leys Residents 3 Comments

LLRA is delighted to report that that committee members are talking with key members of the STOP VEOLIA campaign team, and that we are already working together (this website is a first and visible demonstration of that) and we look forward to their involvement growing stronger.  At our AGM at the end of May / start of June, a number of them will be standing for committee membership to bring their skills and energies to LLRA.

For STOP VEOLIA, spokesman Chris Taylor said: ‘It seemed an obvious step.  We are a single community, and should speak with a single voice about the issues we face, and the opportunities that arise.

‘The greatest strength we have – whether fighting Veolia or looking for the best way to spend the Section 106 money, or any of the issues we have in Long Leys – is if we work together.  For this reason we have committed to LLRA to work with them, and a number of us have undertaken to stand for committee election at the AGM in May or early June.  I hope this will have the approval of residents.’

Gary Stimson, LLRA Chairman, said: ‘The STOP VEOLIA campaign created a great community spirit and we have learned from that.  We believe the momentum built up in that campaign can bring great benefits to the community, and we’re very happy to be working with their members, and hope the community will support them by voting them onto the committee at the AGM.’

What great news! I’m delighted we seem to be getting a co-ordinated community website. The “Stop Veolia” campaign showed what huge support we have for important local issues and the backing for the Long Leys Urban Village campaign has also proved we have hundreds of
residents who really care about our neighbourhood and are willing to give their support for the benefit of everyone in our lovely community. A big thank you to those who have put this website together.
Best wishes for the future of this project, Paul and Janet Howard,
    (Mercer Drive)
