Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Long Leys: Helping The Community

17th March 2020 by longleysra Leave a Comment

The Long Leys community is still getting to grips with recent developments on coronavirus (COVID-19). With guidance changing by the day, many of us have questions on how we best protect our community and ourselves. LLRA have been getting basic advice from the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum (LRF) which is part of the Lincolnshire County Emergency Centre, as well as keeping up to date on latest government guidance which is shared in the links below this article.

Those of us who don’t fall into a high-risk group are probably wondering how best to offer help to vulnerable and elderly people, without putting ourselves at risk. Some high risk groups may already be getting support from family, friends and neighbours and we are aware of many offers on social media from those wanting to help with shopping and urgent supplies. If you are already looking out for vulnerable neighbours it is important that you are following the 16 March guidance on social distancing and protecting older people and vulnerable adults, which can be found via the links below.

If you are not sure whether one of your neighbours needs help, then ringing or emailing them are good ways to check. We know that many of our more elderly residents are infrequent or non users of social media/email. One other suggested alternative is to post a postcard through the door, having washed your hands first, along the lines of the one shown here.

When delivering food, medicine etc, current guidance is to:

  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds before delivering
  • Keep at least 2 metres (3 steps) from vulnerable people
  • Leave items outside
  • And of course don’t do this if you feel unwell.
Read the 16 March guidance on possible coronavirus infection via the link below.
  • If you are helping others then do make sure you are not working alone; someone should always know where you are and ideally accompany you.

As we get further guidance on coronavirus we will look to share it within the community. You can also receive information by subscribing to Long Leys Community emails at: http://long-leys.org/subscribe-to-long-leys-community-email-list/
